A Few FAQs....
The Party Wall etc Act 1996 came into force on 1st July 1997. The Act places legal responsibilities on those undertaking building works within specified distances of neighbouring structures and party walls, amongst other things. Party Wall legislation is somewhat complicated and technical in nature. Having undertaken Party Wall work since its inception in 1997, we have an extensive knowledge of the Act and its implications.
Heritage statements, or statements of significance, are frequently required as part of a planning or Listed building application. Our post graduate training and experience in dealing with historic properties can help to protect the special qualities of your building and inform the designer to enable a sympathetic alteration to be made. As of 2012 there were approximately 375,588 listed buildings in England. Listed buildings are classified into 3 grades. Grade I buildings (2.5% of total) are of exceptional interest. Grade II* buildings (5.5% of total) are particularly important buildings of more than special interest. Grade II buildings (92% of total) are of special interest warranting every effort to preserve them.
